Adrienne Gower, Middle School Coach

Adrienne began rowing at Auburn University in 2004. During her three years on Auburn’s crew team, she rowed and coxed a variety of lightweight and open boats, earning a collection of medals and the title “most valuable rower” for Auburn’s women’s team. More importantly, those years gave Adrienne an enduring love of rowing and respect for it as the ultimate team sport.

After graduation, Adrienne moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she helped coaches Alison Pollini and Jason Cottingham found the Black Warrior Rowing Club. She rowed and coxed there until May of 2009, when she moved to Gainesville, Florida, to pursue a graduate degree in English at the University of Florida.

Since completing her graduate studies, Adrienne has had the opportunity to pursue her rowing interests. She began coaching the UF novice women in the fall of 2017. In her three years coaching, the novice women have gotten progressively faster, earning a silver medal in the novice 8 at ACRA in 2019, and placing highest in club history (4th) at the 2019 Head of the Hooch regatta. Adrienne looks forward to building on this success in the coming seasons with UF, and bringing this experience to the middle school program at Gainesville Area Rowing.

Adrienne is thrilled to share the love of rowing with new rowers and aims to instill the fundamentals of good technique that will make the middle school rowers strong rowers for future high school teams, and give them a passion for the sport that will make them lifelong athletes.
