Invite A Teacher To Row Day
Gainesville Area Rowing hosted an “Invite A Teacher To Row Day” on Saturday, August 29th at Newnan’s Lake in Gainesville. Approximately 10 teachers and their guests attended this event. The event was targeted at area high school teachers to help them learn about our Gainesville Area Rowing Club and how students can benefit from rowing. It was important to tell our guests that our youth rowers learn about the importance of well balanced nutrition as a part of their athletic training at GAR and that many GAR rowers have gone on to row for universities across the country and several have received college scholarships. We also told the group that our 11th Annual Gator Head Regatta will take place in Gainesville, Florida on October 24, 2009. We have invited all the teachers who participated in the August 29th event to join us for the Gator Head Regatta on October 24th as volunteers.
Adult Learn to Row Course
Our next Learn to Row course is scheduled for September 25th – 27th!
Rowing can be a lifelong pursuit; it is easy on the joints, adaptable to many body sizes and levels of athletic skill. Competitive and recreational rowers range in age from 12 to the late 90s. It is never too soon or too late to learn about this sport. Our Learn to Row course provides an introduction to the indoor rowing machines, sweep rowing and sculling. The course provides plenty of individual attention and time on the water.
Sculling is the type of rowing where each rower uses two oars, one for each hand. In sweep rowing, each rower has one oar.

If you are concerned about transportation to and from practice, students generally carpool to practice from their respective high schools. Also, parents set up carpools to help get all of the rowers home afterwards.
