New Rower Checklist!

When you become involved in a new organization it’s hard to know what you should do first. Below is a checklist of things that every parent of a new rower should do:

  • Join the GAR list serve so that you know all of the important news. Go to the contacts tab and follow the instructions under GAR Youth and Parents Mailing List.

  • Complete all of the waivers listed. Some of them are online and some will be hard copies. This is a large set of waivers but should cover us for most of the races this year.  Go to the members tab, then youth, then forms. Have your rower bring all hard copies to the boathouse and give them to their coach.

  • Complete the online GAR registration. This sets you up in our accounting system and provides emergency contacts for our emergency database. Coaches can access this database with their smart phones at practice. Go to the members tab, then youth, then registration.

  • Use the GAR google calendar! You will see every event coming up from races to fundraisers. Go to the calendars tab, then select youth.

  • Read the GAR handbook. Go to members, then youth, then guides and rules.

If you have any questions at all about GAR, please contact the coach of your child. They will either assist you or if they cannot, they will make sure that your question goes to the appropriate GAR member who can help you.

Welcome to our team!

Membership Meeting

We will be having our first general membership meeting this coming Thursday, Sept 15th at 7:00pm.  The location is the second floor of the Life South Building, 1221 NW 13th Street, Gainesville.  This is a very important meeting which everyone should attend!  We will be discussing and voting on vital issues and covering key changes for the 2011-2012 rowing season.  Please make it your priority to come and show your support for the club and your children.

Welcome

Welcome new rowers and parents. Although most upcoming events are posted on the GAR web site, the club’s main method of communication is through yahoo group e-mail. To join the email list, send a blank email message to: gainesvillearearowing-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. Yahoo will immediately send an email message to confirm that you do indeed wish to join this group. Simply hit “Reply” and “Send” as option 2 in the email instructions states. If you are on the list but aren’t receiving regular e-mail from GAR members, please check your “Bulk” or “Junk” mailbox in your e-mail program. Communication is vital to running a successful club, please sign up for the group.

Here is the 2011-2012 Middle School Racing Schedule. Competing in regattas at the middle school level is not mandatory but is encouraged, they are a lot of fun!

Daily Practice Plan Fall 2011

Below is the link to our Fall 2011 practice plan. This plan takes into account that we will be sharing UF’s dock since the GAR dock has no water around it. The coaching staff devised this plan to make sure that each squad was able to balance rowing with other forms of cross-training. This plan includes a stadium workout for each squad once per week at UF stadium. The orange decal lifts at 3:30 and that is what time we will begin our practice there. Let’s make sure that all of girls carpool to the stadium on Tuesday and the guys carpool to the stadium on Thursday. Here is the schedule: Fall_Facility_Schedule_2011

This is our racing schedule for the high school program for the 2011-2012 season. Please notice that Southern Sprints (Erg Sprints) is optional this year but encouraged for rowers looking to row in college and would like to post a fast time.  Any time an SAT/ACT can be taken on a non-regatta weekend, we would greatly appreciate it! It’s always most beneficial for the whole team to race at regattas.
