Providence, RI – On the tidal flow of the Seekonk River, David Fette (2009) helped the Boston University Terriers’ 1st Freshmen 8 to a nearly 10-second victory over Brown University on Saturday, March 27th.  Sitting 3 seat, David and the other Terrier frosh men beat a Brown crew that won every event they entered- the 1st & 2nd Varisty 8s and 1st & 2nd Freshmen 8s – of the Eastern Sprints Championship last year.

David and the Terriers will race again on Saturday, April 10th against crosstown rival Northeastern University.

On the women’s side, Maya Oren (2007) and the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets kicked off their spring racing season with 2 wins for the record books at the John Hunter Regatta in Gainesville, Georgia, the site of the 1996 Olympic rowing course. Oren, President of the Yellowjackets’ club,  helped the Varisty 8+ post a gold medal performance beating 2nd place Rollins College by 5 seconds, taking 1st of 12 crews.  Following her win in the 8+, Oren moved on to the lightweight 4+ where she added another gold medal to her collection, besting the 2nd place crew from Clemson University by 7 seconds.

Maya and the Yellowjackets will be racing next on Saturday, April 10th at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
