Alumni Success in Tiger Country

Princeton NJ – Gainesville Area Rowing alums had a strong showing at the Princeton Chase Sunday.  The Chase, a 3-mile head race held on Lake Carnegie featured Varsity lightweight & heavyweight 8s, Novice 8s as well as Varsity & Lightweight 4s, and small boats competition.

David Fette, a freshman rower for Boston University men’s team, sat 4-seat of the Terrier’s Freshman 8 that placed 4th of 17 crews with a time of 14:07.6.  Princeton won with a time of 13:41.1

On the women’s side was Scotia Stein in the 6-seat and Jenny Tomlinson in the 2-seat of University of Virginia’s Novice 8.  The Cavs’ boat placed 3rd of 16 crews with a time of  16:26.0 behind 1st place Princeton (16:13.8) and 2nd place Colombia (16:25.7).

GatorHead 2009 Results

GatorHead
The all points trophy for the 2009 GatorHead Regatta went to Gainesville Area Rowing for the 4th year in a row! Lake Brantley Rowing Association came in 2nd place and Orlando Area Rowing Society came in 3rd.

Thank you to all of our visiting teams: Bolles, Boone, Jacksonville, Lake Brantley, Lyman, Maclay, Melbourne, OARS, Power Ten, and ROCCS. I hope these teams enjoyed the competition and a beautiful day at Newnans Lake in Gainesville, Florida. We are looking forward to great competition again next year and finding out which team will take home the Gator Head trophy in 2010!

Fall Rowing Challenge
The 2009 Fall Rowing Challenge has concluded. Thank you to everyone who participated. Fourteen GAR ergers reached the 100k goal and all together they rowed over 2.5 million meters. GAR placed in in the top 5 rowing clubs (of 60), and 31st out of the 256 groups that participated in the challenge.

Concept2 has sent out Concept2 socks for those that reached the 200K level and a Concept2 towel for the 100K level.

Great job!

GAR’s presence was felt at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston today. This morning new GAR Master Andy Hogshead, in the Harvard Alumni Mens 8+, rowed to a 6th place finish in a field of 34 boats. Their raw time was 16:47.586, a mere 11 seconds from medaling. This afternoon, in the Director’s Challenge Mixed Double, Jen Figueroa and Bill Griffith were the fastest on the water by more than a minute in the 22 boat event. They rowed the course in an unofficial time 18:54.679. After handicaps were applied their great row gave them a third place finish. Also, congratulations to GAR Alumi David Fette. David Fette is a 2009 Alumni Rower of GAR. David is currently attending Boston University and rowing with their college crew team. Wine Tasting Fundraiser

invitationBack by popular request, Sara Landis, owner of The Perfect Gift, has agreed to host another wine-tasting. 100% of ticket proceeds go to GAR! This will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009.

10 Tickets for the Wine Tasting Fundraiser will be distributed to the Youth on October 12th at practice as a part of their fall fundraising packets. Tickets should have already been distributed to the Masters.
