GAR Teacher Learn to Row 2009
Gainesville Area Rowing hosted an “Invite A Teacher To Row Day” on Saturday, August 29th at Newnan’s Lake in Gainesville. Approximately 10 teachers and their guests attended this event. The event was targeted at area high school teachers to help them learn about our Gainesville Area Rowing Club and how students can benefit from rowing. It was important to tell our guests that our youth rowers learn about the importance of well balanced nutrition as a part of their athletic training at GAR and that many GAR rowers have gone on to row for universities across the country and several have received college scholarships. We also told the group that our 11th Annual Gator Head Regatta will take place in Gainesville, Florida on October 24, 2009. We have invited all the teachers who participated in the August 29th event to join us for the Gator Head Regatta on October 24th as volunteers.

    Volunteer
If you are a GAR member or parent, sign up to volunteer at the regatta. The Gator Head will draw in over a thousand rowers and spectators. We need your help to run the event smoothly and safely. There are several ways you can help out on race day. Contact Alice Rankeillor at alicer@gator.net to sign up. GAR Masters, you can sign up to volunteer on the GAR Masters Calendar.

Baked Goods: We would like all GAR families to make 2 dozen of some type of homemade goodies. Ideas can include muffins (I made pumpkin muffins), breads (banana, zucchini)-2 slices per bag, rolls (croissants, cheese), bars (brownies, pecan, oatmeal), cupcakes, and cookies. We will sell them for $2 a piece. Please wrap them individually and make the quantity appropriate for the $2 price tag. Use your best judgment-we’ll adjust if need be. We would prefer you bring them Sat. morning due to limited storage space-either by your rower or you. The goodies can be dropped off Friday with your rower or when you pick them up if that works best for you. We are hoping much of this sells in the breakfast time frame. Again, thank you for all your support of GAR.
